20 Jan Flame Tree Barbecue ~ WDW Dining
Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Green Loop. Today we are telling you all about some of the best quick service restaurants at Walt Disney World.
For our first trip to Walt Disney World, I did ridiculous amounts of research on where we should eat. Since we were using the dining plan, I wanted to make sure we were getting a good value for our money and eating some great food! Flame Tree Barbecue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was the first place on our meal time itinerary since it easily covered both of those bases.
This quick service restaurant is not your typical burger and fries joint. In fact, while they do have fries, there is not a single burger on the menu! I enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich (which was HUGE,) while my husband had the St. Louis ribs and chicken combo, both served with baked beans. For those who aren’t wanting a meal meant for carnivores, there are also a couple of great salad options available. The kids menu includes hot dogs, Smuckers Uncrustables sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, and chicken drumsticks. My kids, however, all decided they wanted the smoked turkey breast sandwiches, which happen to be on the adult menu. Thankfully, I only ordered two of them for the four kids to share because, like my pulled pork sandwich, they were massive! It is also worth noting that thanks to these large, easily shared portions, this restaurant is perfect for people on the Disney dining plan! You can really stretch your quick service meal credits here by sharing a single meal. If you aren’t on the dining plan, with most menu items being around $10, Flame Tree Barbecue is still a very economical (and delicious) option. Here is my warning: with this amount of food sitting in your belly, you may want to get that ride on Expedition Everest in before hand!
The food is amazing, but what really makes this quick service restaurant a step above the rest is the scenery. I almost view this seating area as another attraction at Animal Kingdom because it really is a sight to see. This picturesque water feature truly gives you the feeling that Disney has somehow magically transported you to Southeast Asia.
As if that wasn’t enough ambiance for you, the Flame Tree Barbecue has covered tables overlooking the water and the surrounding lush green landscape with an unobstructed view of Expedition Everest. If I didn’t know better I would think I was on the other side of the world somewhere looking at one of nature’s wonders, NOT sitting at a theme park! Since I do know better, I have to take a second to bow down to the incredible imagineers who built Expedition Everest. More importantly, I’d like to thank whoever preserved this area with a killer view as open seating for the Flame Tree Barbecue. I don’t want to say it too loudly, but I would have paid much more for the view that came with my meal.
Flame Tree Barbecue is one of the best (if not the best) quick service restaurants you will find at Walt Disney World. Quality food in easily shared portions combined with incredibly scenic views are what make this place worth visiting. Although I must warn you, when you do visit the Flame Tree Barbecue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, BEWARE OF THE YETI…and the two year old who gets into the beans!
